Resolve Your Dispute Without Going To Court

Should you stay off social media during mediation?

On Behalf of | Mar 5, 2025 | Mediation

Social media is a place where people can stay connected with each other. Some people post regular updates about their lives, but there are times when this might not be the best decision.

If you’re in the middle of a personal injury claim or another case that’s going to go through mediation, it might be best for you to stay off social media. There’s a chance that anything you say on social media, even pictures you’re tagged in and comments you make, could be used against you

Even deleted content may be used

One thing that some people forget about social media is that even things that you delete may still be part of the case. It’s possible for people to take screenshots, which means that it might get into the hands of the other party.

Perception matters

You must think about how things may be perceived if you decide to stay on social media. Even things that you think are minor or unimportant may be twisted to use against you. For example, you may post a picture of yourself at a boat show, but the other side may twist it as a way to show that your injuries aren’t as serious as you claim them to be.

Every case is different, so it’s best to work with someone who can assist you with determining how to proceed. Discussing social media and other aspects of the case may help you to decide what’s appropriate for your case.
